About Us, Our Vision and Mission
Just for a little background, my name is Julie Lane and the inspiration for the foundation was my husband, Scott. We have two adult children- a daughter and son. In 2015, Scott was diagnosed with ALS. He suffered a very rapid decline. Within 6 to 8 months of his diagnosis, he lost the ability to take care of himself, feed himself or speak. Scott passed away in May 2021. Although Scott was an active and intelligent human being trapped in a body that no longer worked, he remained positive and upbeat to the very end. His strength and unwavering faith have been an inspiration to many, including our family.
Our faith in God, the support offered by friends, family, our church and some nonprofit organizations is what kept us going. During that journey, we realized there are many expenses that can’t be anticipated.
Our family understands the toll- emotionally, physically and financially- a serious illness or disability takes, and we want to help others as they have helped us. We are determined, as was Scott, to make something good come out of this situation. Over the years, we have learned the most fulfillment we can get from this life comes from our faith, family and helping others.
The Lane Family Foundation was officially formed July 19, 2017. Although the foundation is fairly young, we have “hit the ground running” and are already assisting the needy in our community. We are raising money through donations, fundraisers, etc. Our equipment loaner program is up and running and, as of January 2019, began accepting applications to award a grant per quarter.
What we are trying to accomplish can be summed up well in one Irish word- “Dóchas” (DOE-hass) which means “hope; bringing faith to the future”. Although we don’t know what challenges the future may hold for us, what we do know is that our family will stick together and face them head on. It is our hope that we can bring some “Dóchas” to other local families as well.
